National Day Calendar founder Marlo Anderson is creating an original piece of art for every state in the union — a new design unveiled each week, timed to that state's National Day. Tennessee is the second, released for National Tennessee Day on October 26.
Each design is laser-etched into a real slab of wood, bark edge and all. The shape, the grain, the knots and the color are whatever the tree decided, so no two pieces are alike. The one that arrives at your door is the only one like it.
About the Tennessee design. Marlo built this one around the music: an acoustic guitar rises through the center, set against the state's own silhouette, where a log cabin and split-rail fence sit beneath rolling mountain ridges and a river winds toward the sunrise. Irises, the state flower, and passion flowers, the state wildflower, frame both sides, and a pair of mockingbirds, the state bird, perch beneath the banner. "The Volunteer State" runs along the bottom. Marlo's signature is etched into the piece.

Ten, and then it's gone
Only ten of the Tennessee slab will ever exist. When all ten are sold, this design is retired for good.
We make ten of each state. When Tennessee sells out we will not make more, and next week a new state takes its place.
Please note: because every slab is cut from a different part of a different tree, the piece you receive will vary in shape, size, color and grain from the one pictured. That is the nature of the material — and the reason yours is one of a kind. We ship within the United States only.
